Harry R. Hamilton Elementary

Newsletter for Week of Oct. 16th

It’s hard to believe that we more than halfway through October! Our students continue to work hard, make good choices and do and say kind things.

Our Terry Fox Fundraising was a huge success- we raised over $4400- Amazing. Jocelyn Spence, a grade 3 student at HRH raised over $500 by selling homemade bracelets. Jocelyn, we are so proud of you. Ms. Beaton’s grade P/1 class raised $1000 (incredible) and Ms. Nolan’s class raised $570. Students in Ms. Beaton’s and Ms. Nolan’s classes each won a class pizza party.

Attendance Reminder:

If your child is going to arrive late, please select full day absence and Mrs. Brown will adjust once your child arrives. Thank you so much!

Halloween at HRH:

We are very excited to welcome our HRH families to Halloween at HRH which will take place next Thursday, October 26th from 6:00 pm-7:30 pm. We will have lots of fun activities for our students to participate in. Our PTA has been working hard to plan this fun evening for our students. To help make this event a success, volunteers are needed. There will be 2 shifts- 5:45-6:30 and 6:30-7:45, allowing volunteers to still have time to spend time with their child(ren). If you are available and/or have a preference of a shift, please let us know at HRHPTA@gmail.com and you will be added to the schedule.

Admission will be $5 per child or $10 per family. The canteen will be cash only. Everyone will get a ballot for the Classroom Pumpkins (these are decorated pumpkins that each class will create) upon entry and families can purchase additional ballots in the gym if they wish.

Halloween- October 31st:

Students are invited to wear their Halloween costumes to school and bring a personal snack to enjoy in the afternoon- classes will not be sharing food. A reminder that masks and play weapons are not allowed to be brought to school- even if it is part of a costume.

Bus Safety:

Over the past several weeks, we have had bus drivers talk to us about unsafe and unkind bus behaviours. Children have been standing up and changing seats while the bus is moving, have engaged in physical behaviours, and are using inappropriate language. The bus is an extension of our school, and all children have the right to feel safe while travelling to and from school. Our bus drivers also need to feel respected and be able to focus while transporting our students.

Our teachers have been discussing appropriate bus behaviours and our students have been very honest about the behaviours they are seeing, hearing and being part of while travelling to and from school. Many of the behaviours are occurring close to the back of the bus. For some of our students, sitting closer to the middle or front would be a better option. Please speak with your children about the importance of bus safety and respectful behaviours. Thank you so much for your support!

Grade 3 Provincial Assessments:

Our current grade 4 students completed a literacy and math assessment last May. The results will be emailed to families on October 26th.

We look forward to welcoming our families to Harry R Hamilton on October 26th.

Enjoy your evening!
