HRH News

Dear Families,

Wow- what gorgeous summer like weather we have been having. The next couple of days look great- enjoy!

A reminder that there will be no school this Friday, October 25th for our students, as teachers and support staff will be engaged in professional learning.

Provincial Lunch Program:

We are 1 week (October 28th) away from the Lunch Program beginning in HRCE. A reminder that lunches are accessible to all students with a pay-what-you-can system that lets families confidently pay what you are able.

A reminder that the on-line system closes for ordering on Wednesday, October 23rd at 12:00 pm.

Bus Safety:

Over the past several weeks, we have had bus drivers talk to us about unsafe and unkind bus behaviours. Children have been standing up and changing seats while the bus is moving, have engaged in physical behaviours, and are using inappropriate language. The bus is an extension of our school, and all children have the right to feel safe while travelling to and from school. Our bus drivers also need to feel respected and be able to focus while transporting our students.

Our teachers have been discussing appropriate bus behaviours and our students have been very honest about the behaviours they are seeing, hearing and being part of while travelling to and from school. Many of the behaviours are occurring close to the back of the bus. For some of our students, sitting closer to the middle or front would be a better option. Please speak with your children about the importance of bus safety and respectful behaviours. Thank you so much for your support!

Arriving on Time:

Mornings are certainly a busy time for all families, and being late from time to time is okay; however, arriving late each day causes children to miss instruction and transition smoothly into their day. Please work with your child, helping to ensure that they arrive at or before 8:05 am.

SAC and PTA:

School Advisory Councils (SAC) are intended to give parents an opportunity to provide feedback in what is going on at school. For example, when HCRE or the province develops new policies, parents are given an opportunity to respond to the policy, and provide suggests and feedback. The SAC brings partners together to make decisions and share advice in the best interest of student learning and well-being. Our SAC will meet six times per year. If you are interested in becoming part of our SAC committee, please contact me at jcholock-whitty@hrce.ca or 902-864-6815. Our next meeting is on Wednesday, October 23rd.

Our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) are also looking for new members! If you enjoy planning and organizing fun events for our families and would like to help with fundraising initiatives, please come to our next meeting on Wednesday, October 23rd at 6:30.

Grade 3 Provincial Assessments:

Our current grade 4 students completed a literacy and math assessment last May. The results will be emailed to families on October 24th.

It’s a lovely afternoon- enjoy!
